Series of Weather Systems to Deliver Moisture to Northeast for the Weekend

Active Weather Pattern to Continue Into Next Week

If you live in the Northeast, you are going to want to get outside and enjoy the weather on Friday before the chance of sporadic rain throughout the weekend sets in through the region. While it was a soggy Wednesday and Thursday for much of this corner of the nation, Friday is going to bring pleasant weather to kick off the weekend. But how long will it last?

Beautiful Day to Kick Off the Weekend

In addition to the drying out on Friday, the day will also bring much lower humidity levels. Temperature readings will be right about average for the middle of June with the mercury landing in the mid-70s into the low 80s for the bulk of the Northeast. This will make for a beautiful day throughout the Northeast.

However, forecasters are warning that a shift in the weather heading into the weekend will make Friday the best day to enjoy the great outdoors. The good news is that any precipitation is not likely to be as heavy and as widespread as what the area saw on Wednesday and Thursday. A lack of moisture in the air will keep rainfall amounts to more manageable levels.

Although Thursday’s rain might have been a nuisance to some, the system helped to move out the bulk of the moisture from the atmosphere. Because it can take a few days for this moisture to build up again, it is not likely that any rain events over the weekend will carry as much of a punch.

The first blasts of energy that come into the Northeast from the middle of the U.S. will run into the roadblocks of dry air. This will mitigate the odds of severe weather development.

What to Expect for the Weekend

The southeastern corner of the U.S. will see the first of the rain on the East Coast on Saturday. This mass of precipitation will slowly crawl in a northeasterly direction throughout the day. The greatest chance of severe weather will be along the frontal boundary of the system.

As the moisture moves to the north, a large swath of land in the Northeast will be under the threat of rain showers. This includes cities such as Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. Although there will be dry air mixed into the rain, you would be wise to check the hourly forecast in your area before participating in outdoor activities.

The increase in moisture will also usher in high humidity levels throughout the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. However, forecasters believe that temperatures will stay suppressed despite the rising humidity.

Most areas of the region will be just a few degrees below average for this time of the year. There is no doubt that the persistent cloud cover will keep these temperatures down.

Looking Ahead to Sunday and Monday

Another shift in the weather pattern will arrive late in the weekend, bringing heavier rain with it. As moisture funnels inland from the Atlantic Ocean, it is forecast that the region will see more widespread rain showers and the potential of severe weather. The precipitation is forecast to pick up later in the afternoon on Sunday and continue into Monday, delivering a likely wet start to the new week.

The most severe weather is forecast to impact an area stretching from Pennsylvania and into New Jersey. The heavy rain will also affect the Great Lakes and into southern Canada. The increase in moisture by the end of the weekend will also cause humidity levels to spike.

This active weather pattern is expected to continue in the Northeast through the early part of the week. In other words, it is a good idea to keep an umbrella in your vehicle for the next several days.
