You need pumpkins for everything from Halloween decor to cooking for Thanksgiving, and pumpkin patches are great places to get them. However, depending on the patch, you might find everything from hay rides and corn mazes to country markets and spending time with farm animals.

Best in the Southwest

Set your GPS for Moriarty, New Mexico to visit McCall’s Pumpkin Patch. Open each weekend throughout October, your family can get its fill of fun by doing racing, a corn maze, or just picking out your pumpkins. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, then you might want to visit Hillsboro, Oregon to see Roloff Farms. You might already know this family from their TLC show titled “Little People, Big World”. Around 30 miles west of the city of Portland, this farm is one of the country’s most notable pumpkin patches. You can make reservations Fridays through Sundays every October. Admission of $24 per person over the age of 2 includes parking, a wagon ride, and scenic walking trails. You can pick pumpkins and buy fall-themed gifts in a country store sitting in a century-old barn.

Heaven Hill Farm started back in 1982 simply as a roadside stand selling fruits and veggies. Now, it’s nestled cozily into the Appalachian Mountain foothills hosting a Great Pumpkin Festival each October. This event is the biggest of its kind throughout the northern half of the state. Over 40 fun activities quickly fill your day, whether it’s making a great jack-o-lantern, enjoying a hay wagon tractor ride, or getting lost in the 10 acres of the Mad Scientist maze.

If you’re within driving distance of Warren, Connecticut, then you can visit Angevine Farm. Dating back to 1868, it’s been passed through six generations of the family, three of whom still run it today. The farm is renowned for its Christmas trees, but October is pumpkin time for them. Pick pumpkins on your own Fridays through Sundays every October. You can pick straight out of the patches, or get something already picked at their Harvest Barn gift store.

Beulaville, North Carolina is home to Mike’s Farm. This place is popular several times per year, but pumpkin season might be the best. Head to Gretna, Nebraska for Vala’s Pumpkin Patch. Closing in on four decades of operation, this pumpkin patch gets thousands of visitors every autumn. Tour over 50 acres of annual pumpkins on the larger 400-acre farm close to Omaha. Spend the entire day thanks to dozens of attractions for all ages. Listen to the Barnyard Animal Band, tour the Haunted Farmhouse, or find your way out of the Pirate Maze.
