Despite stormy and messy conditions for nearly all of the US at some point over the last several days, Halloween night is shaping up to be a nice time to head outside for trick-or-treating festivities for a great majority of the country. Will your neck of the woods see scary or calm conditions this Halloween? Read on for the forecast.
While many people long for a white Christmas, nobody ever asks for a white Halloween. However, that may be the story for a small slice of the nation. The Rocky Mountains will see the greatest potential of a white Halloween. A drop in the mercury will also necessitate that kids layer up underneath those costumes for extra warmth as they head outdoors.
Although the Denver area will likely escape any snow accumulation on Halloween, some flakes may fall a little farther to the north in and around Cheyenne, Wyoming. This line of snow will expand into the western half of Nebraska and the southwestern corner of South Dakota.
The northern Plains will also be under the gun for a mix of showers and snow. In addition, chilly conditions will lead to a less than pleasant night outside. The cold temperatures will also affect the Midwest, including Chicago, Minneapolis, and Des Moines. This wide swath of colder temperatures will stretch into the Great Lakes.
If snow does not ruin your night, will the rain be the culprit? The most significant chance of rain will be in some of the biggest metro areas of the US, including Philadelphia and New York City. However, the rain should not lead to a total washout. If anything, residents may experience scattered precipitation that sends them running for an umbrella to match the costumes.
New England may not be as fortunate, with stormy weather expected to be more widespread throughout the day and night. The entirety of upstate New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and western Massachusetts will be under the threat of storms and rain. Be sure to keep close tabs on the hourly forecast and you may be able to find a dry patch to get outside for the festivities.
Those most likely to enjoy the best weather conditions for Halloween are those living out west and in the South. The Desert Southwest will actually see temperatures that are higher than average, making it important to choose costumes that will keep you cool.
After experiencing a frightful week of weather thanks to the bomb cyclone, high pressure will begin to build up on the West Coast. This will offer dry weather and mild temperatures up and down the coast with the exception of the far northern coast of California and the coastal areas of Oregon. The threat of the Santa Ana winds kicking up could potentially deliver breezy conditions to Southern California.
The southern Plains and the Southeast will also be in good shape with average temperatures and dry conditions in the forecast.
In short, other than a band of snow in the Rockies and some showers and storms out east, the bulk of the US will be in for a Halloween that is decidedly not scary.
