String of Warm and Sunny Days Setting Up Over East Coast

The mercury is going to soar to near 80 degrees in some areas of the Northeast this week following the chilly start to the week. How long can you expect this unseasonable warmth to hang on? Here are the details that you need to know as you make your outdoor plans in the coming days.

Picture Perfect Weather on the Horizon for the East Coast

While it was a blustery and wet weekend for much of the Northeast and beyond, the region is in for a treat with the weather as the week progresses. It will feel more like the middle of September in this corner of the U.S. with atypically warm temperatures and dry conditions. This will be a great stretch of days to work on outdoor yard projects or head to the pumpkin patch.

A large area of high pressure building over the eastern third of the country will usher in this pleasant weather pattern. Temperatures will hover in the 60s for Tuesday before inching up into the 70s on Wednesday and potentially hitting 80 degrees on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. A number of major cities will experience this warmth, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C.. Readings will top out in the 70s for areas such as Pittsburgh, Boston, and New York City.

Although you will be able to shed those layers and break out the shorts during the afternoon hours, keep in mind that the evening and early morning hours will still be chilly. In fact, forecasters are cautioning that a frost or freeze could be in the cards for the interior portions of the mid-Atlantic and up through New England on Tuesday.

The overnight lows will also begin to moderate later in the week. After record lows as cold as the 20s and 30s on Tuesday, you can expect lows to bottom out in the 40s and 50s for the balance of the week.

Pleasant Conditions for the Southeast

The Southeast is also going to enjoy pleasant weather for the rest of the week. Plentiful sunshine will help to nudge the mercury up into the upper 70s and low 80s for a number of major cities, including Atlanta and Charlotte. The weekend will be especially warm and sunny for the southeastern U.S. with the next significant drop in temperatures not expected until the middle of the following week.

The coastal areas will also see an abundance of sunshine, making it a great opportunity to take a walk on the beach. While it may not feel warm enough to take a dip in the Atlantic, the weather will be nice enough to spend time soaking up the sun.

It will be the opposite weather situation on the other coast with a massive storm system dumping rain and snow across the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, and the northern Plains. The drop in temperatures associated with this weather maker will eventually make its way to the east, impacting the East Coast by Halloween and into the first part of November.

For example, New York City will fall from a forecast high of 80 degrees on Saturday, back into the 60s on Sunday and Monday, before dropping into the mid 50s on Tuesday. This day will also bring the greatest chance of rain for the Big Apple. Meanwhile, the rain will hit as early as Monday for areas to the north, including Boston. In short, enjoy the warm and dry conditions while you can.

The good news is that the moisture will likely hold off for the weekend for the Eastern Seaboard. There will be a slight chance of a stray shower over the region, however, it is not expected to be a washout as it has been for the past several weekends. Stay tuned to this forecast as it begins to develop in the coming days.
