Temperatures Will Begin to Inch Up Across Eastern U.S. Beginning Thursday

The temperatures will be on the upswing once again in the central and eastern portions of the U.S., continuing the weather pattern whiplash that this half of the country has experienced over the last several weeks. Here is what you can expect in the Northeast in the coming days.

Few More Days of Chilly Temperatures

The end of October felt more like the middle of December for much of the eastern U.S. A blast of Arctic air paired with the arrival of the first Alberta Clipper storm system of the year made for a miserable Halloween for many communities in this part of the country. However, a change is on the way, expected to bring readings that might land above normal for the beginning of November.

The colder temperatures will linger for another day or so for a large part of the eastern U.S., particularly in the Southeast and into Florida. The interior South, Northeast, and the Midwest will still be dealing with frost and freeze concerns on Wednesday and into Thursday. Some parts of the Southeast will experience their lowest temperatures since last spring with some readings potentially breaking record lows for the beginning of November.

For instance, temperatures in Nashville will drop as low as the upper 20s early Thursday. You have to go back to March to see readings in this range.

The Gulf Coast will also get in on this chilly weather. The forecast low Thursday morning for Houston is slated to hit the mid 30s. The record low for this date in history is 34 degrees, meaning that this record could be in danger of falling.

Readings will also plummet into the upper 20s to the north in cities such as Chicago. Like many other areas in this region, temperatures this cold have not been recorded since last March.

New York City will likely avoid the freezing mark for a low on Thursday, dipping to about 36 degrees. Despite dodging freezing territory, it will still be the coldest morning since the end of April for the Big Apple.

On the Cusp of Warmer Air

This current cold spell is about to come to an end with significantly warmer temperatures expected to build across the Southeast, the south-central U.S., and the Northeast starting later on Thursday. This stretch of warmer weather is expected to hang on through the weekend.

Temperatures in North Texas will inch up 5 – 10 degrees every day starting Thursday and lasting through Sunday. Dallas has been dealing with unseasonably cold temperatures this week with readings plateauing at numbers you would expect for the end of December or beginning of January. This is about to change with the temperature forecast to break the 80-degree mark by Sunday in the metroplex, translating to a swing of about 25 degrees from Wednesday.

It will also be noticeably warmer in the Southeast. Atlanta will jump from highs in the mid 50s on Wednesday to readings that hover in the mid 70s to close out the weekend.

While the temperature change will not be quite as dramatic in the Northeast, drier conditions will translate to a more pleasant weather pattern. New York City will bottom out with highs in the mid 40s on Wednesday before the mercury begins an upward swing through the weekend. By the time Sunday rolls around, you can expect highs to reach the mid 60s.

It should be nearly perfect weather for the running of the New York City marathon on Sunday. Runners will enjoy highs of about 63 degrees and partly cloudy skies.

The Midwest will experience a brief warmup through Friday before a storm coming in from the Pacific Northwest slows down the temperature climb. The arrival of cloudy conditions and the chance of rain will keep temperatures from reaching their full potential across cities such as Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis over the weekend.
