Unseasonably Warm Temperatures Out East Forecast to End by Middle of the Week

The pleasant weather enjoyed by millions across the East Coast over the weekend is about to come to a screeching halt. The unseasonably warm temperatures are going to be replaced by a weather pattern that is more typical of November across the northern tier of the U.S. in the coming days. Here is what you need to know about the chance of moisture and how far the temperatures will tumble in this region.

Moisture Picking Up Across the Northeast

It will be a soggy beginning to the new work week for many Americans in the Northeast and beyond as a storm system pushes down from Canada on Monday and Tuesday. In addition to bringing a good chance of rain for many communities, this weather pattern will also usher in breezy conditions.

Unlike many weather makers that drift down from Canada at this time of the year, this particular system will not come with cold enough temperatures to support the development of snow. The only parts of the region that may see flakes fly will be across the northern reaches of Maine.

While the temperatures will remain moderate to start the week, the wind and rain could make for some miserable time outside. This will be a week when you will want to check the hourly forecast to time your outdoor chores and activities accordingly.

Dry Conditions Persist for the Southeast

It will be a different story in the Southeast with the dry conditions forecast to persist throughout the early part of the week. An area of high pressure anchored over this corner of the country will keep the rain at bay. This is not good news for a region that has been dealing with ongoing drought issues.

According to the November 2 U.S. Drought Monitor report, a large swath of the area extending from northern Georgia and up into western Virginia is currently dealing with moderate to severe drought levels.

This area of high pressure will also work to keep the warm temperatures in place up and down the Atlantic seaboard for the first few days of the week. The warmest day of the week for the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast will likely fall on Tuesday. You can expect readings to climb into the 60s for a high in places such as New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.

Cooldown in Store for the Northeast by Middle of the Week

Enjoy the warmer temperatures while they last as cooler air is on the horizon for the Northeast by the middle of the week. A southward dip in the jet stream will pave the way for cooler air to move down from the north. This will translate to daytime highs that fall about 10 – 15 degrees lower when compared to earlier in the week for the major cities up and down the Interstate 95 corridor.

For instance, New York City will tumble from a forecast high of 67 degrees on Tuesday to readings that top out in the low 50s on Wednesday.

Looking at the rest of the week, another storm could potentially spoil the weather in the Northeast by Thursday. Some portions of the interior Northeast and up into New England could record some snow out of this system.

You will want to stay tuned as this forecast becomes more reliable in the coming days. Air travelers and motorists will want to keep abreast on what this storm may mean for their upcoming travel.

Heading down into the Southeast, the wet conditions and cooler temperatures will begin to impact the area by late in the week. Atlanta will go from readings in the low 80s during the middle of the week to temperatures in the 60s for the weekend. The chance of sporadic rain showers may also be an issue by Friday.
