Warm and Dry Weather Pattern Settling in Across East Coast

Posted: October 2, 2023 9:58 am

Just days after dealing with torrential rain that unleashed major flooding across some parts of the Northeast, the region will welcome October with warmer and sunnier days. The upcoming weather pattern will come as a relief to those who are ready to say goodbye to the exceptionally wet September. What is on tap heading into the new work week for this part of the country? Read on for the details.

Building High Pressure to Usher in Nice Weather for the Northeast

An abundance of sunshine will be the story for a large swath of the country stretching from the Mississippi Valley to the Eastern Seaboard. An area of high pressure will start to creep from the Midwest to the east in the coming days, helping to bring the temperature upwards and erase any lingering moisture.

Record high temperatures could fall across the Upper Midwest as the warmth begins to build. While no records are expected to be threatened on the East Coast, it will still feel much warmer than the last several days.

The good news is that the warmth and dry conditions are expected to stick around for at least four days. This will give residents plenty of time to clean up from the latest storm system and to simply enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

New York City is forecast to see an abundance of sunshine beginning on Sunday and lasting through at least Wednesday. Highs will hover in the mid to upper 70s. These readings will land above the historical average for the first week of October of the upper 60s. While some clouds will build later in the week, conditions are forecast to remain dry in the Big Apple.

It will be even warmer when compared to usual temperatures across the Great Lakes and into the central and southern Appalachians. The mercury is expected to climb to about 10 to 15 degrees above average. For instance, the temperatures in Buffalo, New York are predicted to climb into the 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday. This part of the eastern Great Lakes typically sees temperatures in the mid 60s this time of the year.

You will also find beautiful weather throughout New England. Boston will spend the early part of the week in the 70s. Moving farther south, cities such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. will sit about 5 to 8 degrees above what is the norm for early October.

Heading into the interior Northeast, cities such as Pittsburgh and Syracuse will hit the upper 70s and low 80s beginning on Sunday and hanging on through Thursday. These readings will translate to about 10 degrees above average.

Pleasant Weather Will Stretch Into Southeast

This warmth and dry conditions will expand into the Southeast, enveloping cities like Atlanta, Raleigh, and Charlotte. Daytime high temperatures will hit as high as the mid 80s. Low humidity levels and plenty of sun will pair for some lovely days to enjoy outdoor activities.

The return of rain will arrive earlier along the coast of the Southeast. You will want to keep an eye on this forecast as it becomes more clear if you live in this corner of the U.S.

In addition to the chance of coastal rain, the interior portions of the Appalachians may see bouts of fog in the morning hours. This fog could create flight delays in the region.

Leaf peepers will need to wait a bit longer to check out the changing colors of the leaves in areas that are experiencing this late surge of heat. While the leaf peeping season got a head start because of the cool and cloudy weather in the Northeast as of late, that early beginning may be negated with the arrival of warm and dry conditions.
