Wet and Sloppy Weekend for Those on the West Coast

While the eastern half of the US will enjoy a calm weekend, the West Coast and Florida will be in for a soggy few days. Here is what to expect for your weekend forecast.

Soaker for the West Coast: The West Coast is going to be under the gun for the weekend. A new system is moving in from the Pacific Ocean late Thursday with forecasters expecting it will hang around for a few days. This comes after Southern California was drenched on Wednesday. Nearly every part of the West Coast will see significant rainfall and the potential for storms over the next few days, putting a damper on any possible weekend outdoor activities.

This cold front will make its presence known overnight on Thursday. As the front moves ashore, the rain will come in with it. The first area to see the heavy rain will be the Pacific Northwest coast, beginning Thursday evening. This will bring a significant amount of rain to cities such as Seattle, Portland, and Eureka, California throughout the day on Friday to kick off the weekend.

Snow in the Higher Elevations: Those located above 3,000 feet will see this precipitation fall in the form of snow beginning late in the day Friday. The Cascades and the Sierra Nevadas should expect to see an accumulation of up to 10 inches before the snow event concludes on Saturday afternoon.

Another Round of Rain on Sunday: A new round of lighter rain will begin to fall on Sunday throughout Washington and Oregon. This will set up a bigger storm event for the state of California on Monday. While the Sunday precipitation will be relatively weak, Monday’s system has the potential to deliver widespread rain throughout much of northern and central portions of California.

Sunshine State Not So Sunny: The state of Florida is also in for a wet and messy Saturday. Clouds will move in over the Sunshine State starting late Friday. Rain showers will start to fire up in the panhandle overnight Friday, setting the stage for heavier rain on Saturday to drench the entire peninsula.

Forecasters are warning of the possibility of localized flooding. While severe weather is not predicted, a stray thunderstorm is not out of the question. The rain will move out by Sunday, leaving a better day to close out the weekend.

All is Calm on the East Coast: Over on the East Coast, the weather should be generally calm for the weekend. While temperatures will be below normal for much of the eastern half of the nation, there is no measurable precipitation expected.

Highs will only be in the 30s and the 40s for New York City. It will be even colder up in Boston with highs not expected to top 35 degrees.

This calm weather will also be the story throughout the Great Lakes, Midwest, Ohio Valley, and Southwest. This is sure to be a welcome relief for areas battered by a relentless string of storms over the month of February.

Springlike Weather in the Midwest: The Midwest will enjoy springlike weather with highs in the 50s and 60s stretching from Omaha through Kansas City and Oklahoma City. After being hit with record-breaking cold temperatures just a few weeks ago, the state of Texas will see seasonal weather.

Chill Remains in Chicago: Chicago will be dry, however, temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 40s. This will be the same story throughout cities such as Indianapolis and Lexington.
